At CYPL, sustainability is woven into the way we operate. From thoughtful, site-specific design to efficient use of natural resources and meaningful contributions to our community, we take every step to minimise our impact on our environment while supporting the place we call home.

Smarter Energy Use

  • Tropical-smart design – buildings stay cooler naturally

  • 770+ native plants and a growing bush tucker kitchen garden

  • Green remotes keep cooling above 22°C to save energy and prevent mould in rooms

  • Air-con door sensors switch units off if doors are left open

  • Window tinting cuts heat by 70% and drops room temps by 5°C

  • Cold-water washing in our guest laundry saves up to 80% energy

  • Battery-powered tools replaced petrol gear in FY25

  • Sensor lighting in gardens and efficient fleet vehicles (using efficient Diesel fuels as electric cars have yet to hit the NPA).

Turning Waste into Good

  • Aluminum cans recycled and donated to charity each year – raising $10K for the local women’s refuge and dog de-sexing program

  • Paperless office with digital management systems

  • Cardboard & paper recycled – shredded paper reused as mulch

  • Kitchen organics composted and garden waste mulched

  • Tap water jugs in suites – no need for bottled water

  • Beach clean-ups at Mapoon Beach to fight marine debris

Caring for Water

  • Water-wise fittings – dual flush toilets, low-flow taps, and efficient upgrades

  • Timed irrigation & mulch to keep gardens thriving

  • Guest towel reuse program to save water and energy

Impact: Reduced water demand on the Jardine River supply, helping conserve a vital community resource.
